In 1984, Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah (then Bro. Ankrah) and some Accra High School Scripture Union faithfuls started an Evangelistic group. The name of group was Showers of Blessing Incorporated.
The vision of the group was to strengthen Believers and Unbelievers alike -especially students - in their faith during the trying years of Ghana's recovery from poverty and starvation of the 1970s and 1980s.
The main tools used in carrying out the vision were Music - Praise and Worship; musical concerts through its main wing PRAISING SHOWERS; and the Preaching of the Word.
The group comprised of 12 members; Sixty Percent (60%) of whom are still with the Church - both home and abroad. The rest still stay in touch and are committed to the faith.
Post-graduation, marital responsibilities, relocation overseas of some members, amongst other issues, between 1978 and 1990, slowed down the Group's activities. During the said period, the vision of the Group was kept alive in the corridors of prayer.
From 1990 onwards, the Group's activities peaked up. Indeed though the vision tarry, wait for an appointed time; for it shall surely come to pass. And so it did when in JUNE 1992, Showers of Blessing metamorphosed into a full-fledged Church with 12 adults attending its maiden service.
The church did not continue as Showers of Blessings Incorporated. It assumed a new name: ABUNDANT LIFE MISSIONS INTERNATIONAL.
The following names and datelines are instructive: ABUNDANT LIFE MISSIONS INCORPORATED: March 1991 - July 1992; BIBLE WORSHIP CENTRE: July 1992 - August 1994; INTERNATIONAL BIBLE WORSHIP CENTRE: August 1994 - March 1999; ROYALHOUSE CHAPEL INTERNATIONAL: March 1999 to date.
RoyalHouse Chapel was founded by Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah. There were other faithful brothers and sisters who stood with him; it was the vision God had given him that basically attracted these gallant brothers and sisters to stand with him against all odds.
What were the odds?
Most of the initial members belonged to already established large churches, with some performing leading roles; the thought of leaving to begin all over again was not exciting at all. 'What if it failed?' were some questions that lingered on their minds.
'I have heard by many' was the other question. Having pastored a church whose growth in terms of membership amongst others was unimpressive before his two-year sojourn in Holland, what guarantees are there that he would make it this time around?
Furthermore, though all knew the call of God was on his life, his rough edges were more of a Politician or an astute Businessman than a Pastor. He clearly wasn't certain what to do with his life. Why would one want to follow such a man?
These questions notwithstanding, people followed him. His vision and testimony compelled people to follow him. |
